PONCE, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico has a higher rate of AIDS than all but one state and the District of Colombia, a former U.S. surgeon general said Saturday.

EATG and UK African organizations put ethnic communities on the treatment agenda
"Migrants are getting a worse deal from doctors" said Lisa Power, whose organization is working on issues about compliance, "but, for now, we have only anecdotal proof in the UK." Power’s comment echoes those of other AIDS activists throughout Europe for whom it has become obvious that the deep inequalities which have put Third World communities last in line for health care and treatment are now even more Two international conferences held under the auspices of the European AIDS Treatment (...) Deadlier than any virus: Euro-doctors pass secret anti-immigrant motion
During a plenary session, the Federation of Academies of Medicines and Similar Institutions of the European Union unanimously adopted an anti-immigrant motion to draw attention to "the risks presented by immigration, and especially clandestine immigration, by bringing and propagating certain diseases, the most serious of which are tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C, and sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, the frequency of which is becoming menacing in the countries of the European (...) Both asylum seekers have been granted anonymity by the Court. One person suffers from symptomatic HIV infection which causes him fatigue and pain. He also has a leg injury caused by a grenade explosion and suffers the permanent consequences of wounds through torture. The other applicant is an (...) Lire la suite...

France : Sans-papiers call for moratorium on deportations
Twin specters of new medical insurance scheme, new immigration legislation broadens terrain of AIDS strugglesIn the wake of the 27 June circular defining several "categories" of sans-papiers or undocumented who could apply for a one-year residency card on a case-by-case basis, the sans-papiers movement — together with Act Up Paris, the legal defense group GISTI, and other movement supporters — called on 1 August for a moratorium on all deportations.
